In this unit we build on our Illustrator skills and apply our ability to work with vector based objects to letterforms. During our study of type we learn about classic fonts and look at ways type change the personality of design and layouts.

Typography is everywhere. Good typography, like good design, should be almost invisible, used to convey and organize information. In this series of lessons, we look at what typography is, and why it matters. We talk about legibility, how we process words, and look at some popular typefaces. We address typography in logo design and follow this up with an activity that focuses our attention on the nuances of various typefaces.

Activity 3.1: Logo Switch
3.2. Completion Tasks
Over the course of a number of classes, we will work on a variety of completion tasks designed to familiarize students with typography, and practice working in Illustrator. All completion tasks, once finished must be uploaded to student’s websites for marking.
3.3. Culminating Task
Students will create a poster that highlights the interesting and unique features of a typeface of their choosing.
